Many of the species of this genus have such a wide distribution that variations particularily in flowers naturally occur, this makes classification for the Taxonomists very taxing, sorry that should be trying! In general these hardy orchids need humus rich preferably leafy soil that has reasonably drained soil. This one is from the Alps and is sometimes listed as a subspecies of D. majalis it has spotted leaves and purple flowers.
